Grape harvest in Bocopa

One of the most emblematic and romantic for wineries from all over the world is the grape harvest time. It is a wine festival that has many references in film, successful TV series, literature and painting and even in many villages of Spain is the star of the tourist festivities.

In most of the wineries in the Mediterranean area of ​​Spain, it finished harvest time between the months of September and October, but Bocopa vintage continues in November which is when the grapes are harvested to make our Fondillón Alone. This ancestral wine as ours, makes us unique from the time of Louis XVI and Alexander Dumas who spoke of it in his novels.

Each of the varieties grown in Bocopa has its right time for collection being studied throughout the entire process of cultivation by our engineers. Among white varieties, Airen and Macabeo-Merseguera, collected in September. While the vintage Chardonnay and Muscatel of Alexandria spans the months of August and September.

The harvest of red varieties: Red Grenache, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Tintorera, takes place in September. The Monastrell variety is collected in the month of October.

Bocopa wineries, whose facilities are located in an area of ​​10,000 square meters, of which more than 5,000 built, consists of 600 farmers in the province of Alicante’s other 100 members. We are talking about 700 families in Canada, Castalla, Petrel, Sax and La Romana, who live on the careful winemaking.

Along with Gaspar Thomas, who is manager of Bodegas Bocopa for 27 years, the field engineer Toni Santonja, is responsible for controlling the production and stay in touch with all farmers throughout the year.

Bocopa winemakers and in general, all equipment that consists of about 40 people, working always looking for innovation based on tradition and marked by consumer tastes.

The wineries have an area of ​​over 1,000 hectares of vineyards and reach a market of over 5 million bottles of which 40%, mainly north and central Europe is exported. Moreover, among the emerging markets, it is noteworthy that Japan and China are also becoming important customers and big fans of our wines.

The remaining 60% is consumed in Spain, especially in Alicante and Valencia, but also has great success in other communities such as Catalonia, Andalusia and Madrid. In figures, the trading volume exceeds 9 million. Bocopa represents between 40 and 50% of all wine from Alicante DOP. With these data we can say that Bocopa is number one in the sector in Alicante.
